I'm Janna Kaspara, named after my grandfather, whose love for nature and animals I've happily inherited.
Living in the north of the Netherlands, I'm surrounded by fields, forests, animals, and stories waiting to be told.
I discovered my love for drawing during a hectic time in my life. As a family caregiver for my mother and sister, I picked up a pencil one day to unwind and something just clicked. What started as a way to find calm quickly grew into a passion for creating cozy worlds full of color, warmth, and kindness.
My work is inspired by the nature and animals around me, and by the strength and wisdom of the women in my life. I love illustrating gentle, heartwarming scenes where small everyday moments — a cat watching snow fall, the honking of geese flying overhead — feel a little bit magical. I enjoy working traditionally and usually work with soft pastels, though I also like to create with acrylics, oils, and watercolors. I enjoy bringing soft yet colorful characters to life.
Another passion of mine, is creating portraits of animals. It gives me a tremendous sense of fulfilment when I get to immortalize someone's pet. Having met my souldog myself, I know exactly how a pet can be the center of someone's life. They are our best friends, family, children.
When I'm not working on a portrait I can be found illustrating and designing characters. After years of creating custom pet portraits and illustrations, I'm excited to be working on my own picture book.
I’m currently working on my debut picture book, Cupcake & Oliver, inspired by my own cats and my love for cozy, animal-centered storytelling.. Through my stories, I hope to make children (and the grown-ups reading with them) feel cozy and happy. And to help nurture a sense of wonder and care for all living things.
When I’m not drawing, you'll find me outside birdwatching, working in my garden, or on a hike. I share my home with three cats — Frey, Fiona, and Mickey — and two dogs, Simon and Pim, all of whom often sneak their way into my creations.
